Sustainable architecture begins with designing for longer lifecycles and reuse. Adaptive reuse is one of the best strategies to address the climate crisis and promote social inclusion. Reuse retains the unique character of places, bridging between old and new, and in areas undergoing urban renewal fosters community diversity and social resilience.
1978 I started work at Allen Jack + Cottier and 10 years worked with Peter Stronach on alterations and additions to inner city terrace houses and obsolete industrial buildings. Adaptive re-use was in the DNA of AJ+C
